About the event
WHAT IS THE FUNCTIONAL NEUROARTICULAR SYSTEM (FNAS)
FNAS is a clinically orientated diagnostic-treatment-rehabilitative process that incorporates a focus on treating tissues in a hierarchy in order to resolve nociceptor threshold changes. This systematically calms the pain matrix and its receptors. This leads to normalisation of movement and alleviation of the pain experience.
FNAS takes from the work by McKenzie, Mulligan, Butler, Maitland, Shacklock, Barral and others to create a new approach in the treatment of all pain states. This approach is alternative to the pathoanatomical perspective.Â
FNAS can be used with many other modalities and methods. It is an integrative approach that focuses attention towards the function of nerves within a matrix that is the human nervous system. It gives the clinician a framework to work with and a direction without any esoteric or unscientific thinking.Â
Put simply...All pain is neural in origin, therefore focusing on nerves as the source of pain helps guide treatment. Furthermore, most pain is based on nerve compressive disorders of varying degrees. The most common is reduced blood flow to nerves and at the other end of the spectrum is neuropathic pain due to morphological changes of the nerve.Â
Additionally, stability and facilitation of muscles/nervous system plays a huge role too. There are variety of ways to approach exercise. FNAS is open to all and doesn't suggest any one methodology is better, only demonstrates what is possible.Â
Lastly, impairments of psychology and health status can be blockages to resolution of pain. These need to be worked through as part of the holistic plan each clinician works through.Â
Resolve neural impairment.
Resolve stability/facilitation impairment.
Resolve psychological impairment.
Resolve health status impairment.
This course covers pain states and conditions of the upper body - Upper extremities, thoracic and cervical spine. Please note we will not cover cranial nerves in this course.
